LYONS/CLIFTON SPRINGS: Richard “Dick” Smith, 80, of Clifton Springs passed away Monday June 18, 2018, at Rochester General Hospital with his family by his side. Dick was born August 22, 1937 in Lyons, New York, the son of Frederick John and Helen Lucine Brown Smith. At the age of 16, he enlisted into the Army during the Korean Conflict with the consent of his parents. He was deployed to Germany where he was a truck driver. After his time in the service, he came back to Lyons where he drove truck for the Village of Lyons. He retired from the Burns Company where he had been a supervisor. Dick marched with the Lyons VFW color guard, was a collector of many things including WW II memorabilia. Dick liked to going to flea markets and loved taking his children then his grandchildren to watch trains. Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; sons David A. of Clifton Springs and Dick Jr. (Jill) of Hopewell; daughter Darci A. of Lyons; a brother Fritz (Linda) of South Dakota; sister Marion (Skip) Lead of Phelps; six grand children Josh, Erica, Zane, Ryne, Ashley and Kaelyn; several nieces and nephews. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Monday June 25 in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons, New York with full military honors.
