LYONS: Age 81, died on November 25, 2018 at the Wayne County Nursing Home, where he spent his last two months. Bernie was born April 9, 1937, in Savannah, the son of Lyle and Bertha Laird. He was the oldest of 7 children. He married Marie Ferguson on May 17, 1969, almost fifty years ago. They lived in Lyons all their married life together and at their Route 31 address for 47 years. Bernie worked first at Jackson-Perkins in Newark and then over 30 years at Parker-Hannifin in Lyons. He was predeceased by their son, Eric, who died on November 13, 1992. He is survived by his wife, Marie, who was constantly by his side with medical, physical and loving support. He is also survived by his six siblings: Linda Weaver of Waterloo, Leonard Laird of Marbletown, Gary Laird of Lock Berlin, Judy Shea of Fulton, Marcia Pitzeruse of Helotse, TX, and Bonnie Works of Alvin, TX. A private graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, a donation is suggested to the American Heart Association (www2.heart.org) or American Diabetes Association (donations.diabetes.org).
