PALMYRA: Age 81, died peacefully on May 3, 2016 at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, Florida. A remembrance and celebration will be held at a later date. Merrill was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and emigrated after college to pursue his interests in agriculture in Western and Central New York State. After over 20 years in that sector, he finished his career as a plastics printer for Huntsman Corp, then Pliant Plastics in Macedon, NY. His hobbies included woodworking in the basement, and there are several sets of beautiful Adirondack chairs still being enjoyed to this day – likely for many years to come due to his meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship. Merrill spent his retirement dividing his time between Palmyra, NY, in the warmer months and Bradenton, FL, as a “snowbird”. He also liked to visit his daughter in Maine to help her with projects around her house, enjoying fresh lobsters during each stay. No matter where he went, if a polka band was playing nearby, you can be sure he was tearing up the dancefloor. Merrill is predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 46 years, Betty Ann; his parents, Robert and Verna; a sister, Audrey Morash; brothers, Ronald, Everett, and Bruce. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter and daughter in-law, Heather Palmeter and Laura Main; brother, Elmer Palmeter; sisters, Lorna Davis (Bill) and Betty DuPuis (Peter); sister in-law, Mary Jane Blondell; many nieces, nephews and several cherished close friends. Please consider making a donation to your local hospice organization or the American Lung Association in Merrill’s memory. Online condolences@ rlyostfuneralhome.com
