NEWARK: Doris Elizabeth (Wunder) Smith, age 91 entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at her home with her daughter by her side. Doris was born the daughter of the late Fred and Mabel (Kaiser) Wunder on Thursday, August 11, 1927 in Lyons, NY. She attended Lyons High School, graduating the class of 1946. For several years she worked for the New York Telephone Co. in Lyons and Syracuse as an operator. Mrs. Smith left her position to become a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed collecting antiques and had a special ability to find the right piece to decorate her beautiful home. Mrs. Smith was very proud of her home and her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching birds and squirrels and loved dogs. She and her late husband, Robert enjoyed spending time at their home in St. Augustine, Florida. CHICO, CA (FORMERLY CLYDE, NY): Age 66, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Stephen was born in Biloxi, MS to the late Claude Sibley and Barbara Strawway on May 14, 1952. He graduated from South Seneca High School (Ovid, NY) in 1970 and Yuba College (Yuba City, CA) with a Associate’s Degree in Science in 1993. He also earned his Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling in 1994. Stephen dedicated 17 years to the United States Air Force from 1970 – 1989, with a brief break between enlistments. He served in the Vietnam War from 1974 – 1975. While enlisted, Stephen earned the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon,and Air Force Training Ribbon. Over the years, Stephen helped many people with their chemical dependency through many different agencies and organizations. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Claude Sibley (1985) and step-father, John Strawway (2014). He was a career man who served 26 years in the Army. He also worked for Civil Service as a surveyor and travelled all over. Survived by two sons, Guy Ambrose (Marianne Austin) and Matthew Gainfort (Molly Temple) both of Oklahoma City, OK., two grandchildren, Meghan and Devereaux Ambrose, two brothers, Lewis and Joe Gainfort. PALMYRA: Died on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the age of 89. Helene was born on June 30, 1929 in Englewood, NJ the daughter of Eugene and Dagny Bjornstad Weste. She was married to Robert F. Scribner on May 5, 1954. Helene was a longtime member of the women’s association of Western Presbyterian Church and a valued member and supporter of the church choir. She was an alumni of the University of Rochester and a member of Palmyra’s Kings Daughters. Helene had a long career in nursing and had served as the Director of Nursing for the Wayne County Nursing Home prior to retirement. Helene was predeceased by her husband Robert; daughter Kristine Magno and sister Dagny Crowley. She is survived by her son Kurt (Donna) Scribner; grandchildren Patrick T. (Lindsey Greketis) Magno and Zachary R. and Noah R. Scribner and great-grandchildren Amelia Kristine Magno and Henry Thomas Magno. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing and had participated in the Seneca Lake Fishing Derby for more than forty years. He loved his Trophy fishing boat. Bill will be missed by all who knew him but remembered fondly.
