NEWARK:/ROCHESTER):Passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. Bill enjoyed spending his time visiting with his family, especially his grandchildren who brought him so much joy. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Carol Mussaw (Smith) of Newark; Daughters Dawn (Dan) Blodgett, Kendra Payne, Elizabeth Gerhart (Kyle Gosier), and Kacie (Meikal) Winsor; Sons Thomas (Elisabeth) Payne, Jason (Angela) Payne, and Robert (Malina) Payne; Grandchildren Christina Mussaw, Frank Downey (Jaclyn Rinehart), James Downey (Miguel Diaz), Crystal Blodgett, Renee Blodgett, Meghan (Brian) Davis, James Thompson, Pollyanna Treese, Jadon Treese, Benjamin Treese, Deiondra (Tyler) Butler, Olivia Payne, Abigail Payne, Jerame Payne, Mallory Payne, Gideon Payne, Zipporah Payne, Rigel Winsor, and Conor Winsor; Great Granddaughters Guilianna Bullard, Alexandria Mussaw, and Lacey Davis; Brothers Tim (Donna) Mussaw, Jim (Debbie) Mussaw, Dan Mussaw, Ron Mussaw, Don (Connie) Mussaw, Roy (Marge) Mussaw, Bob Mussaw, Dick (Joanne) Mussaw; Sisters Deborah Mussaw Larwood, and Arlene (James) Knutowicz; Sisters-in-law Sandy Mussaw and Margaret Mussaw; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents Emory and Lillian Mussaw, Daughters Barb Mussaw and Deborah Mussaw, Brothers Floyd Mussaw and Joe Mussaw and Sister Flora Mussaw. Caine, Hazel Elizabeth “Betty” (Conklin)

FORMERLY ONTARIO: Passed from this life on January 1, 2017 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 89. She was born on August 30, 1927 in Glen Cove, NY to William and Hazel (Drew) Conklin. She was raised and attended schools in the Glen Cove area. Following her sophomore year, Betty begin training to be a nurse at the Glen Cove, NY hospital. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Walter Caine. Betty and Walter moved to Upstate New York while Walter attended college. A few years later they relocated to Ontario, NY and Betty began working in specialized nursing for palliative care patients. Later in her career, she was employed as a nurse at a local doctor’s office. Betty also cared for patients at nursing homes in Sodus, NY and Fairport, NY where she often took her children to visit her patients to brighten up their days. She retired in 1984 and soon after relocated to Delray Beach, FL to care for Walter’s aging aunt. Following his aunt’s passing, Betty and Walter moved to Lake Worth, FL and then to Boynton Beach where they currently resided. Betty was active in her community with membership in the Red Hat Society, the Ontario Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Presbyterian Church in Ontario, and the Ontario Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary, where she ran the durable medical equipment loaner program. Betty was a woman who was talented at many things. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed making Italian food and cookies for her family to enjoy. She was also a skilled artist who specialized in painting seascapes and portraits of special family members. She and Walter loved to swing dance and line dance. Those who knew Betty Caine best know that the most important thing in her life was her family. She was a firm but loving mother with a ornery sense of humor. She did her best to bring joy and encouragement to those around her and she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brothers Warren and Harold Conklin; granddaughter Audra Claire Caine; great grandson David Asher Paro. She is survived by her best friend and husband of nearly 70 years Walter Caine; brother William Conklin; sisters Dorothy May Ceriello and Marylou Taylor; six children: Peter Walter Caine and wife Laura of Walworth, NY, Lynn Paro and husband Albert of Mustang, OK, Keith Howard Caine and wife Diane of Ontario, NY, Jeffrey William Caine and wife Joni of Ontario, NY, David Drew Caine and fiancé Phyllis of Norman, OK, and Douglas Croft Caine and wife Dorothy of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oklahoma, Rochester, or Boynton Beach Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

NEWARK: Age 63, died Monday (January 16, 2017) at his home. Dennis was born on October 14, 1953 in Scranton, PA, the son of the late Donald and Delores Chabin Decker. He graduated from Hornell High School in 1971 and served in the US Navy. Dennis was a member of Local 13, Plumbers and Pipfitters Union in Rochester. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (nee DeMarco) Decker, a brother Donald “Charlie” (Mary) Decker of Willow Springs, IL; three sisters Delores (George Mowkowicz) Hurst of Essington, PA, Diane (Harry) Backer of Pine City, NY, Laura Abbott of Pulaski, NY; several nieces and nephews. NEWARK: Age 93, died Monday, January 16, 2017 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Carl was born in Hopewell, NY, March 4, 1923, the son of Jacob and Jane Atkinson VanSchaffel. He had worked at the Fiberboard Company for 26 years from 1944-1975. He operated over 20 years, Kenny’s Grill, Country Inn in Phelps, Knight Inn and Norsman Lounge. He was a life member of the Arcadia Post 2883 and August Mauer Post 286 in Newark. He served in the Army in WWII as a paratrooper 1943-1946. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian DeCann VanSchaffel, daughter, Julie (Mike) Chamberlin of Newark, sons, James (Peggy) and John VanSchaffel of Newark, sister, Gilberta Trani of Skaneateles, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews. Predeceased by daughter, Jackie Smith and son Joel, brothers, James L. and Lewis (Willie) VanSchaffel and sister, Hilda Wilcox.

NEWARK: Mary J. (Schoonerman) DeRue, 83, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 16, 2017 at her home. Mary was born the daughter of the late Abraham and Catherine (Herman) Schoonerman on Tuesday, October 17, 1933 in Lyons, NY. She was a graduate of Marion High School class of 1950. As Key Punch Operator, she worked for Garlock Corp for 35 years. Mary was a member of the Woodlane Community Church. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and baking, she was well known for he delicious cookies. Mary loved flowers of all kinds. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Gerald C. DeRue; son David DeRue and his friend Debbie; daughter Eileen (Paul) Welker; grandchildren Bradley, Ryan and Seth; brother John Schoonerman; several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her daughter Michelle Lynn DeRue, June 13, 1998; sisters Irene Minyard, Julia DeFouw and Cora DeFouw.

STANLEY: Penny Darlene (Causemaker) Williams, 60 entered eternal rest on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Clifton Springs Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Penny was born the daughter of the late Peter and Doris (VanHout) Causemaker on Friday, August 3, 1956 in Lyons, NY. She was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1974. After high school, she attended Continental School of Beauty. Penny worked several years at Z-Axis Electronics in Phelps as a production supervisor. She also worked at Touch of Glamour in Newark. Penny enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and bird feeding and watching. Penny will be lovingly remembered by her husband David Williams; daughter Kimberly Conway; grandchildren Marquan Ross and Jade Ross; brothers Larry (Donna) Howard and Clyde Howard; sisters Doris (Edward) Lee, Sharon (Bob) Hogan and Dolly LeSuere; many nieces and nephews.

OVID/NEWARK: Age 92, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017, while living at the DeMay Living Center in Newark, NY. She was born in Pine Valley, NY on April 7, 1924, the only child of the late Arthur and Edna (Baker) Burris. Jane graduated from Odessa Central School in 1941, she had enjoyed working at Shepard-Niles and the Watkins Glen Village Clerk’s office. She has shared many beloved stories of her work at the South Seneca Central School. She retired from N.R. Boyce, Inc. in Ovid, after working there as the bookkeeper for 21 years. Jane was a favorite seamstress for many who lived in Ovid and the surrounding area. She had also been a member of the Ovid VFW Post 6200 ladies auxiliary. Jane is survived by her children, Margaret (Dale) Conklin of Elmira, David Eggersdorf of Romulus, Mary Lou (Robert) Davie of Willard, Brenda (Henry) Pinette of Ovid and Gerald Snyder of Cooperstown; her grandchildren, Shelley (John) Evans, Wayne Andrews, Bobbi Hebert, Kristin Davie, Shawn Davie, Fawn (Michael) Updike and Joey Pinette; her great grandchildren, Ryan and Jordan Evans, Derek and Camden Andrews, Dominic Delgado, Kiya Woodard, Davin and Rylee Updike; and great great grandchildren, Wayne and Payton Delgado. Jane will miss the friends she made in her lifetime, including Betty Mead of Ovid. Janes family would like to share that the kindness shown by Wendy, Ashley, Dani, Samantha, Gina, Rachelle, Nicole, Rev.Carlos Smith, Jeanette, Debbie, Sierra, Patrick and Julie at DeMay was greatly appreciated. SURPRISE, AZ.: At age 68, passed away after a battle with kidney cancer on 1/16/17. Rodney was born in Beckley, WV and lived in Palmyra, NY and Surprise, AZ. Rodney is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth Mitchell, sister, Mary Phillips, beloved aunt, Mary Boatright, children, David Kent Mitchell (Jimmy Sue), Charlotte Ann Underwood (Richard), Thomas Johnathan Mitchell, grandchildren, Katelyn Mills, Kelly Mills, Lexy Ballenger, and Kendra Mitchell. Rodney was a Navy veteran and retiree of Local 832 Operating Engineers. No services will be held. A celebration of life will be held in New York at a future date to be determined by his family. NEWARK: Age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 22, 2016. He was born on April 8, 1964 in Newark and graduated from Newark High School in 1982. Gary furthered his education at SUNY Geneseo, graduating in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree. He moved to New Jersey in 1987, settling in South Plainfield in 1998. Gary worked as a sales representative for Mon Chateau in New York City and previously as a sales manager for DeLonghi USA. Gary enjoyed coaching baseball, soccer and softball for his children’s teams. He also served as a camp master for his sons’ Boy Scout troop. He loved skiing, bowling and vacationing with his family and friends. A lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan, he also enjoyed NASCAR and Indy car racing and sharing a passion for the New Jersey Devils with his children and friends. Gary loved life, his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor that he enjoyed sharing with anyone he came across. He was always willing to help anyone who needed an extra hand. Predeceased by his father Gerald L. Rohrer, Gary leaves behind his loving and devoted family, his mother Lois Rohrer of Newark; two sons Max and Sebastian; daughter Kayleigh and their mother Nina Rohrer, all of South Plainfield, NJ; siblings Kenneth (Debbie) Rohrer of Troy, OH, Linda (David) Snyder of Newark, NY and Lisa Grimes of Phelps, NY; nieces and nephews, Matt and Andy Rohrer, Nicole (Andy) Lanphear, Stephanie (Devon) Leoni; Justin and Curtis Grimes; great niece and nephews, Danica Lanphear, Marshall and Mitchell Rohrer. He will also be greatly missed by his close and dear friend Lisa Glickman and many dear friends.

Farrar, Justin

COLORADO SPRINGS: Age 34 of Colorado Springs, Co. passed away Wed. Jan. 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife Amy.Randolph Farrar from Newark. N.Y. and his two daughters: Arianna age 10 and Skylar age 6. He is also survived by his parents and siblings from California and Arkansas. Other Newark survivors include his mother-in-law Lori Randolph, his father-i n-law Robin, Grandparents Bill & Penny Randolph and Joan Harris. Justin was a Sgt. with the US Army 4th Infantry Division, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. He was on his second deployment to Iraq. On Memorial Day 2006 while they were on patrol, a roadside bomb exploded. Justin was seriously wounded and his commanding officer killed. Justin spent many months at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio. For the past 10 years Justin suffered from his many wounds and never fully recovered. He was awarded the Purple Heart. His greatest joy was his marriage to Amy and being with his two daughters. His quote to us, “Never stop fighting” And he never did! Rest in Peace, dear Justin, Army Strong. He will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston Military Cemetery with his Captain. Memorial donations to: Heroes Sports ,6927 Quail Branch, San Antonio TX 78250.

She was a caring sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, leaving behind many extended family members and friends whom she loved deeply. Marlene was born in Newark, the eldest daughter of Carl and Norma Norrison Ehrhardt. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas “Mike” Barker, the father of her four children; her second husband, Ronald Christensen, father, Carl Ehrhardt, mother and stepfather, Norman and Delbert Smith, brother, Ronald Ehrhardt, and sister, Durinda Cartwright, Marlene retired from Garlock after working nearly 38 years and was a member of their Old Timers Club. She was a lifetime member of the Newark Fireman’s Auxiliary, most recently serving as their Treasurer and had been a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church for 64 years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed her home, traveling, visits with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cooking, and time spent at her lake home in Canada.
