Appleton, Theodore “Ted”

MACEDON: Passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born on November 17, 1932, in Geneva, NY, to the late Paul and Florence Appleton. Ted was predeceased by his wife, Flora (nee Malone) Appleton; brother, Oliver “Pudge” Appleton; sisters, Lillian Darling and Thelma Malone; nephew, Paulie Appleton. Ted is survived by his daughters, Ann (Mike) Spayd, Mary (Jim Erdle) Smith, and Lisa (Frank) Pavia; son, Tim (Stephanie) Appleton; grandchildren, Keli (Caleb Frick) Drake, Alicia Drake, Adam (Megan Conley) Smith, Kyle (Nicole) Smith, Holly Smith, Caitlin Pavia, Hilary Pavia, Jeb Appleton, and Eli Appleton; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Paul (Marie) Appleton; sister, Elaine Eagley and several nieces and nephews. Ted went to high school in Clifton Springs, NY.  Upon his graduation in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served three tours of duty in Korea.  In 1956 he married, the love of his life, Flora, who passed away in 2009 after fifty two years of marriage. Ted worked for many years as an assistant manager with Star Markets in Palmyra, NY. He went on to work as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Macedon, NY and retired in 1999. Ted was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Macedon, NY for many years; later joining the Church of the Assumption in Fairport, NY. He served the less fortunate at every opportunity, working at various soup kitchens in the Rochester area and as a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels. The family wishes to extend special appreciation to everyone at M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua, NY for their compassion and support of Ted.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, September 6, 2018 between 5 and 8PM for a time of visitation at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502.  Ted’s Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 11AM, at St. Benedict’s Parish in St. Mary’s Church, 95 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY.  Interment will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Palmyra, NY. NEWARK: James F. DeMott, 86, died Thursday (September 6, 2018) at the Ontario Center Nursing Home in Canandaigua. Jim was born on November 28, 1931 in Newark, the son of the late  Phillip R. and Alice Dale DeMott. He was a 1948 graduate of Newark High School.   Jim served in the US Army for two years from 1954 to 1956. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church. He was a photographer his whole life. Jim also held other jobs throughout his career, he had been a bartender; he drove truck for the NYS Thruway and for various construction companies. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Joanne Tando;  Larry (Debi), William (Susie), Steven (Dawn), George II (Diane), Edward and Thomas (Lynn) DeMott.  Jim was predeceased by his sibling George, Michael, Phillip and Mary DeMott. Al proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. WILLIAMSON, NY: Dewey Gerald Golden, 85, formerly of Newberry, SC, passed away on September 5, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 28, 1932 in Newberry SC to J.D. (Bus) Golden and Sarah (Shealy) Golden. He was a 1950 graduate of Newberry High School and Newberry College with a football scholarship. He was drafted out of college to serve his country for the Korean Conflict. He later continued his education by receiving his Master’s Degree in Education at Nazareth College in Rochester NY. He was a 9th grade social studies teacher in Gowanda NY and went on to retire from the State of NY as the Director of Education and Training at Newark DDSO. Survived by his children Natalie (Edward) Scribner, Steven (Elizabeth), Valerie (John) Lhuillier and Rosalie Nealon (Mark) Lizzio; brother, R. Wayne (Sharon); sister in law, Inez Golden; grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Scribner, Noah and Olivia Golden, Garnet Bass, Christopher Lhuillier, Stephanie Sweeney, Michael VanSchaffel, Bret Furlong; 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. 3 special nieces Holly, Melanie and Gretchen; aunts, Reba Lester, Ruth Frick, Gloria Shealy and Barnett Golden. St. Pierre, Lawrence Alfred

March 12, 1938 – August 22, 2018 Lawrence Alfred St. Pierre was born on March 12, 1938 and passed away on August 22, 2018. Lawrence was born in Lansing, Michigan to Seigneur J and Mary (Heightchew) St. Pierre. He graduated high school in 1955 from Resurrection Lansing, Michigan and went on to honorably serve on active duty in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1965 and honorably discharged as an AT3 US Navy Aviator. While he was on leave in 1956 he met Betty Ann Hopko, it was love at first sight and they were married on January 4, 1958 in St. Johns Michigan at St.Joseph’s Catholic Church. After the military he worked as a dispatcher for the Michigan State Police in Paw Paw, Michigan. He then went on to Xerox Corporation where he stayed until 1985. After Xerox he worked contract as a Technical writer of military manuals. He is survived by the love of his life Betty Ann and his daughter Lori Ann( Danny) Steingraber, grandsons Colby Lawrence ( Sarah) Brandt , Alex (Krista) Steingraber, Drew Daniel Lawrence Steingraber and one great granddaughter Zoey Anne Brandt. He was preceded in death by his daughter Andrea Marie, his parents, two sisters Phyllis and Margaret and two brothers James and Charles.

 MOUNTAIN VIEW, HAWAII: Heaven is enjoying the humor of James H. Michael, age 54 who passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2018, in his home in Mountain View,  Hawaii; where he resided the last 10 years.  He was born on August 24, 1964, on Long Island,  to John Michael and Priscilla (Kolb)  Pierce.  He will be remembered as the “guiding light” of the Newark High School Class of 1983. He was nominated class president in his senior year and will be remembered as the president with 3 first names who brought Duke Jupiter into the auditorium for a performance. He has become a legend for bringing a pig into the courtyard his last days of school as a senior prank. He worked for Cleason’s for many years enjoying his job of driving a loader. He survived by his children Jennifer and Henry Michael,  wife Robin (Harris) Michael, step son’s David and Ben Granger,  sisters Angela (Daniel) Ovenshire, and Randi (William) Griffin, 3 nieces,  one nephew,  and many other family and friends. He took enjoyment and was excellent at cooking and baking, he was an avid bee keeper since the age of 14,  he loved spending time planting and harvesting, here in NY as well as in HI, having a superb green thumb. His favorite pastime was watching Steelers games with his family. He will forever be remembered for his crazy sense of humor, always making people laugh at and with him. We will never forget his yodeling in the halls of the high school echoing his favorite saying, “Born to be wild!”. In recent years, he has humored his Facebook followers with his humor and pictures of him enjoying his paradise and selling the fruits of his labor on his Facebook page Hawaiian Acres. He had a zest for life and smiled through his physical pain, all to make others smile. His children and Robin were the loves of his life and were always in his thoughts. Please come help us celebrate James’ life on September 23, 2018 from 3pm-7pm at the Fairville Fire Hall (2963 State Route 88, Newark, NY). LYONS: Passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the age of 95. George was born on November 17, 1922 in Williamson to the late Charles and Elsie (Rossiter) Fletcher. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Leo and Charles “Mike”.George is survived by his wife Marian (Johnson) of more than 70 years; his daughters, Linda (Daniel) Ciejek of Massachusetts and Roxanne (William) Harper of Clyde; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law and many dear nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. George was a 1940 graduate of Sodus High School.  He bought the family fruit farm in Sodus for $1.00 from his grandfather around 1945 and worked it for over 20 years. After that he was employed by many chemical and farm supply companies, selling to farmers in the Finger Lakes area. His love of farming never left him. He loved his home garden and tended it for years. George was passionate about sports.  He returned to high school for a P.G. year so he could pay sports.  After getting out of school, he played semi-pro baseball for the Sodus Point Chiefs and basketball for the Beeftrust team in Sodus. Through the years, he attended many basketball and baseball games of grandkids and family members in Lyons and Sodus.  In Lyons, he was named “fan of the year” for 2003-2004.  He was inducted into the Lyons Central School Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2013. He loved his Boston Red Sox!

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday (Sept. 14) from 4 to 7 pm at Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St., Lyons. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (Sept. 15) 10am at St. Michael’s Church, Lyons. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery on Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva.  For 40 years, George was an usher at St. Michael’s Church in Lyons.

Weiland, David Paul Sr.

NEWARK: David Paul Weiland,  passed away Monday (September 10, 2018) at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer, at the age of 66. David was born in Batavia, New York, on June 27, 1952 the son of the late John and Doris Hackett Weiland.  Dave did janitorial at various place in the area. He is survived  by his wife Jane Weiland; his son David Paul Weiland, Jr (Amanda); his daughter Hope Weiland (Joshua Muckey), six grandkids, Stephine, Zachary and Dylan Weiland, Kendall, Noah and Aubree Muckey; a great grandson Bentley Bebout; his bother Richard Patrick (Susuan Carroll). COLUMBIA, SC: Lola H. Lashway, a longtime resident of Columbia, SC passed away July 23, 2018. Born in Canandaigua, NY on February 29, 1936; she was the daughter of the late Ralph J. Hassler and Beatrice MacMillan Hassler. Mrs. Lashway attended and graduated from Palmyra High School in Palmyra, NY where she was a member of the Honor Society and the Glee Club. Following her success in High School, she attended and graduated from the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene in Rochester, NY. Lola worked in a number of Dental Hygienist offices as a Dental Hygienist from 1957 through 2009, when she retired. On August 24, 1957, Lola married Gary Lashway at the Western Presbyterian Church in Palmyra, NY. They had two wonderful children; Kim and Matt. Lola was a long time member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo, SC, where she was very active in several women’s church groups and various ministries. Lola’s relationships, both with family and friends, were always what was most important to her. Above everything else, the people she loved took a top priority. When she wasn’t serving the community or her family, she enjoyed playing cards in her spare time with her friends. Her two favorite games were Mexican Train and Bridge, where she was also a member of two Bridge Clubs. She and Gary enjoyed going to the movies each week and grabbing a bite to eat afterwards with friends. Lola was also a vivid gardener and loved working outside in her flower beds! Her passion for gardening led her to become a member of the Whitehall Garden Club. Her husband Gary always said that in all their days of married life, that he never heard Lola say a bad thing about any person. Lola was known for being a very loving, caring, and precious person and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and care givers. Lola was pre-deceased by her parents Beatrice and Ralph Hassler and son-in-law, Lee Barton. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gary Lashway, daughter Kim Lashway Barton of Big Canoe, GA, son Matthew Lashway and daughter-in-law Maria Lashway of Columbia, SC; grandchildren Chris Lashway, Catherine Barton Lawrie, Elizabeth Barton, Griffin Barton, and Collin Lashway; great-grandchildren Hudson Barton, Penelope Lashway, and Brady Lashway; sister Janet Costa (John), brother Bill Hassler (Elaine). MACEDON: Passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the age of 92.  He was born on December 13, 1925 to the late Alfonso DePaepe and Romanie “Timmerman” DePaepe. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary “Malone” DePaepe on March 14, 1964; who was the daughter of Anne and Frank Malone of Macedon, NY; sister Rachel Hunt and his brother, Albert DePaepe. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; children Jon (Lisa) Cauwels, James (Denise) DePaepe, Kim (Randy) Ransom, Marchelle Harloff and Annette (Nicholas) Geragi; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Morey served in the United States Army Military Police during WW II. He was a life member of the Macedon American Legion. He had been employed by GLF in Macedon as a welder and Maintenance man, and then went to work for DePauw Chevrolet in Macedon for ten years before taking on a job as a mail carrier with the United States Post Office in Macedon where he retired after thirty years of service.  Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation from 5-8PM on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502.  PALMYRA/MACEDON: Passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 57.  She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Helen “Anderson” Lada.  She was predeceased by her husband Keith Wagner. She is survived by her children, Chad Wagner, Lindsay (Bard Frederiksen) and Ra chel Wagner; grandchildren, Tyrion Frederiksen and Rowan Frederiksen; boyfriend, Archie Scott; siblings, Sharon (Jerry) Johnson, Carolyn (Gene) Kunzer, Brenda (Joe) Guarno, Steve Lada and Toni (Doug) Roemer; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.There are so many ways to describe Laura.  She was a selfless, caring, giving and kind person.  She was a dedicated mom and “mia”; always putting her kids and grandchildren ahead of herself. Laura loved going to the casino with her longtime companion Archie Scott.  Laura was a member of the Village Physical Therapy and Fitness of Gananda/Walworth. She was well liked by all of her peers at the facility.  Laura regularly attended Cross Creek Church in Palmyra, NY where she enjoyed the music and could always count on Pastor David Prince to deliver a message that would always make her smile. The family would like to give a special thanks to her many friends in the Silver Sneakers program and yoga classes for all their continued support, love and prayers throughout her illness. In addition, a thank you to Leslie, Mary, Deborah and the entire staff of Lifetime Care Hospice for caring so kindly for Laura at the of her life.  A special thank you to Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Gene for letting Laura stay at their home. The family was always welcome and they provided the best tender, loving, care. Finally, a thank you to J.J. Construction for their fund raising and all the special people who donated their time and money to honor our mother. Barbara was born the daughter of the late Wallace and Harriett (Hickey) Follette on Thursday, March 10, 1927, in Newark, NY.  She spent her life in the Newark, NY area, where she attended Newark High School. Barbara worked for Jackson and Perkins, following her time there she worked as a clerk at Wayne Drugs. After the passing of her husband of 45 years she left Newark to live with her sister in Amston, CT. Barbara loved working on crossword puzzles.  Barbara will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. SODUS: Joshua was blessed with two sets of parents. Predeceased by his adoptive Father Reginald Louder and Grandfather Robert Dangler. He is survived by his adoptive Mother Wendi Edwards and Step Father Terry Edwards, his Biological parents Katina Chambers and Maurice Doleman. Siblings Keturah Anderson Edwards, Kierra Doleman, Tyesha Doleman, & Robert Doleman. His Grandparents MaryEllen Dangler, Janice and Richard Stouch & Marjorie Grady. Joshua served in the United States Army as a Water Treatment Specialist. TRENTON, MAINE: Michele L. McCaslin, age 54, formerly of Williamson, NY, went to be with the Lord after her struggle with pancreatic cancer on September 10, 2018, at her new home in Trenton, Maine. Michele grew up in Woodhull, NY, daughter of Arden and Verda Miles. She graduated from Addison High School in 1982, the same year she married David J. McCaslin. Michele spent her time devoted to her family and the betterment of all animals. In life, Michele held a variety of jobs all focused on the care of people and animals, starting at the Williamson Elementary School then moving to the Sodus Veterinary Clinic and finally working for Rochester Regional Health as a phlebotomist. She spent much of her spare time serving her church family through her cooking and fellowship. Michele is survived by her husband, David McCaslin, her son, Joshua McCaslin, his wife, Tara and their 2 children, Carter and Julia; her daughter, Ashley Stanley, her husband, Lucah and their daughter, Breanna; brothers, Anthony (Peggy) Miles, Rick (Doris) Miles, and Timothy (Cindy) Miles as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Teresa Lawton and brother, Brian Miles. A service of remembrance will be held at 2pm Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Williamson First Baptist Church. ONTARIO: Passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 12, 2018 at the age of 86. She was born in the Province of Quebec on November 17, 1931 to the late Cecile “Bederb” and Aime Therrien and was also predeceased by her daughter, Louise and son, Camille.  She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Germain; grandsons, Robert, Christopher and Shawn LaReau; great grandsons, Tylor Adams and Ryder LaReau; sister, Diane; brothers Andre and Ivan; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jeannedarc was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed her family. She also enjoyed sewing, watching television and sometimes playing bingo.  She will be missed by her family but fondly remembered by them. Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 5-8PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519.  A private inurnment service will be held at White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford.  AUBURN: Age 57, formerly of Wolcott, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Dora Jane; brother, Denny. He is survived by his children, Bryce of Sodus Pt. and Kasey (Frank) DeNoto also of Sodus Pt.; grandchildren, Julian and Willow DeNoto and Adaline Sears; sister, Jodie (Noel) Tyler of Wolcott. Wayne proudly served as member of the Wolcott VFW Auxiliary.
